In the Musical Theatre – Singing – Self-Tape Competition, contestants are required to submit a video recording of themselves performing a Broadway song of their choice. The self-tape must be submitted in advance for judging prior to the CMTC event. This competition offers valuable exposure to industry representatives who represent theatrical talent. Musical Theatre – Singing – Self-Tape Competition Rules:

The Musical Theatre – Singing Competition is open to contestants of all ages.
This competition takes place prior to CMTC and is submitted via self-tape.
Contestants are responsible for selecting a Broadway or Off-Broadway song from the musical theatre repertoire.
Accompaniment must be either a plunk track (karaoke-style) or piano accompaniment. No a cappella submissions.
Only solo performers are permitted. No additional performers should be included in the submission.
The self-tape should be 32 bars in length or approximately 60–90 seconds maximum.
Registered contestants must submit one (1) musical theatre singing self-tape on or before March 15, 2027, using the Musical Theatre Self-Tape Submission Form found on the Contestant Hub page.
Do not include a slate in the submission.
This competition will be judged virtually by industry representatives prior to CMTC.
Judging criteria include:
- Vocal quality (pitch, tone, breath control)
- Musical skill (intonation, timing, rhythm, projection, transitions)
- Interpretation and style
- Stage presence
- Overall potential for theatrical productions

Wardrobe/Filming Tips:

Simple, flattering wardrobe.
Solid colors work best—avoid logos or distracting patterns.
Neutral background. Clean, uncluttered, and well-lit (natural light or a ring light).
Hair and makeup are tidy. Present yourself as if you’re attending a live audition.
