- The singing competition is available to contestants of all ages.
- The competition is divided into two (2) rounds: preliminaries and finals.
Preliminaries
- Contestants entering the singing competition will participate in a preliminary competition on the Wednesday evening of CMTC in a closed judging room. During preliminaries, contestants will sing acapella for a maximum of one (1) minute and will be cut off at the judges’ discretion.
- No musical accompaniment and no musical instruments will be permitted during the preliminaries.
- Judging will be based on vocal quality (pitch, tone, breath control), musical skill (intonation, timing, rhythm, projection, transitions), interpretation, style, and stage presence.
- A list of finalists will be posted at the CMTC information booth on Thursday morning.
Finals
- Singing finalists will perform live in front of a panel of judges and an audience on the Friday afternoon of CMTC. At the singing finals, contestants will be provided with a microphone. Contestants are permitted to sing acapella. However, karaoke-style music (i.e., songs from which the original vocals have been electronically eliminated) is preferred.
- Singers must abide by the following rules:
- Singers must submit their music, in MP3 format, using the Singing Music Submission Form that can be found on the Contestant Hub on or before March 15, 2024.
- Performances must be single acts only.
- Performances have a maximum time limit of two (2) minutes.
- Performances that exceed this time limit will be cut off at the judges’ discretion.
- The chosen song should not feature prominent background vocals.
- No musical instruments will be permitted during the performance.
- Songs and/or music containing profanity or explicit adult material will result in immediate disqualification.
- No roller skates, roller blades, use of any sharp instruments, or any equipment that CMTC or its host venue may deem dangerous.
- Judging will be based on vocal quality (pitch, tone, breath control), musical skill (intonation, timing, rhythm, projection, transitions), interpretation, style, and stage presence.
Wardrobe Requirements:
- Wardrobe/Costume must be in good taste.
